Marketing me

I began my journey on Medium.com in an effort to market me. Well, not me… but my message. I began with the article reproduced below. My effort in introducing myself to a new market of readers.

who am i?

The answer depends on who asks. It varies because I’m not sure myself, exactly who I am.

Wife. Mom. Shop-owner. Writer. Jesus-follower.

New to the list: Mother-in-law.

Some have told me I am someone I don’t even recognize.

At a youth event several years ago, one of my college-age sons was asked: “Who is the tall, thin, pretty, gray-haired woman in the kitchen?” He said, “I dunno.” Well, turns out it was me she was talking about. So not only did my son not recognize me from that description, I didn’t either.

who am i?

I’ve come to embrace the call of Bible teacher and intercessor, ministry leader and author.

But when one man called me a “song writer for God”? Nope, just don’t see it.

Another clung to me at her son’s funeral, sobbing on my shoulder: “You have to help me through this…” Really didn’t see that one… Who am I to help her walk through such grief?!

who am i?

Mostly, I have no idea who I am… but I do know the One who does… the One who created me and calls me by name…

He alone is the only reason I am who I am.

The only One who gets to define me, name me, transform me into who He says I am.

Ultimately, I’m ordinary.

Jesus alone sets me apart and leads me into the extraordinary.

In Him, I become His vessel, His medium so to speak, to reveal His extraordinary Way to others. This is true of anyone who believes in Him — our lives become His palette to reveal Himself to the world.

For it is the God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” who shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that it may be made clear that this extraordinary power belongs to God and does not come from us.

2Corinthians 4:6–7 NRSV

ordinary medium… Extraordinary God…

Part of who I am is filled with a passion for others to know Him too. To understand nothing and no one is ordinary when we put our faith and trust in Him.

It’s why I’m here. It’s why I write. It’s who I am.

who are you?

I’d love to hear about you. Let me know by leaving a response below.
