A basis for transformation.

Template: a pattern used as a guide, an overlay for design (Merriam-Webster’s).

I find myself sifting through and wrestling with blog templates for the renewal of Jeremiah’s Menu. The blog that began the journey of calling myself author. The medium where I learned to listen and write regularly.

With the Medium journey and the call to revisit some of the 2000+ posts on Jeremiah’s Menu, I felt the site needed a face-lift. But who knew it would take so long?

Details matter

I’m not complaining. I find it a complete wonder how easy it is to create a site on WordPress. One that looks professional and readily accepts all sorts of digital media without much knowledge of programming or computerese.

But limitations also come with the predesigned templates. Relearning how to tryout a template without actually making it your template. Then choosing one only to discover you neglected to check the details of the design displayed on each page and post — each template with its own unique elements. What looked good in one place doesn’t work in another. Not to mention the difference between the laptop view and the view on a mobile device!

At least a dozen templates were considered before I landed on the current one which adequately reflects the heart of Jeremiah’s Menu.

At the end of the process, I recall how God cares very much about the details in a template.

And let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst. Exactly as I show you concerning the pattern of the tabernacle, and of all its furniture, so you shall make it.

Exodus 25:8-9 ESV

He gave exact details for the pattern of the place where He would dwell among His people. His sanctuary design included structure and furnishings, placement of walls and windows, color and embellishments.

Make them exactly as the pattern…

Through the sifting of templates, I choose a place — looking to details — where my presence dwells on the worldwide web.

He cares what reflects His nature among people… and so do I.

Not only did He care about the tabernacle of old, but He also has an exacting design for the new covenant sanctuary — the one in the hearts of Believers where His Holy Spirit dwells.

Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

2Timothy 1:13 ESV

We are to be children of light (Ephesians 5:8) transformed by right thinking and not conformed to the ways of the world (Romans 12:2).

He has a template for His people to follow. Onto us He overlays the character of His Son. Another wrestling occurs. Transformation continues — sifting our lives like wheat — until we allow His template to guide and mold us into His desire for His glory.

His Template. His Pattern. His Design.

He is the gauge for our lives — every aspect — nothing excluded. An ongoing process of remolding, remaking, renewing, until the Day He returns. The Day He comes to fix everything in its place according to the original intent.

For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

Romans 8:29 ESV
