He drove out man, and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life.
Genesis 3:24 ESV

In our rebellion against God, falling for the temptation to be “like God,” we lost communion with God. Fully justified in His anger, by grace, He turned away His face. Banished from the garden prepared for us, we were sent out to work the cursed earth and bear fruit in pain.

Separated from God, life is pain-full.

Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am in distress; my eye is wasted from grief; my soul and my body also. For my life is spent with sorrow, and my years with sighing; my strength fails because of my iniquity, and my bones waste away.
Psalm 31:9-10 ESV

What emotions rise when you consider drawing near the presence of God? What does this reveal about the current state of your heart?
