“You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.”
Exodus 20:7 NIV

The third commandment of the ten has to do with the way God’s people use His name. A name is more than just the sum of its letters. Every name of every person or thing, by definition, represents its character, reputation, and nature. Believers are NOT to misuse God’s name.

“I’ll reveal my holy name among my people Israel. Never again will I let my holy name be dragged in the mud. Then the nations will realize that I, God, am The Holy in Israel.”
Ezekiel 39:7 The Message

Knowing that everyone’s name reflects their reputation, why do you think God deems those who misuse His name “guilty”?
