58: God calls you to rest.
Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day shall be put to death.
Exodus 31:15 ESV
Death sounds like a harsh penalty for refusing to rest in God, but it’s a physical manifestation of the spiritual reality.
The deception humankind fell for in the beginning drives us to work ourselves to death. We believe our health, wealth, and happiness depends on us. The truth is we are wholly dependent on the One who is Life. Giving Him one full day of the week as an offering moves us back towards the truth where we learn to rest in Him once again.
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
Matthew 11:28-29 ESV
Jesus frees us from striving for life in the shadow of death. Where are you weary? burdened? overworked? Learn from Him, ask Him to teach you to rest.
