107 truths about God, the world, and you.
60: It’s good for you to give God a day.

You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath.
Deuteronomy 5:15 ESV
No matter how hard we work or fight, we do not have the strength, willpower, or ability to do what He does for us. The practice of giving a day back to God reminds us we are not dependent on our work, but His. We return to the truth: God loves us, provides for us, and frees us from the bondage of sin and death.
Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.
Psalm 116:7 ESV
Neglecting a sabbath, not honoring God for all He did, is doing, and promises to do, keeps us self-focused and enslaved to the lie of our independence. Faithfully trusting God for one day – serving only Him not ourselves – we experience the truth of His faithfulness.
Today consider honoring God with a day this week. Plan it. Do it. Amen.
