61: Jesus is Lord of Rest.
And [Jesus] said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”
Mark 2:27-28 ESV
Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath-rest. He gets to define its practice. He is Lord of how we set apart a day for Him.
At the heart of giving one day a week to God is the pursuit of the things of God – physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually, relationally. It is a grace given to God’s people to guide them in dying to the desires of the flesh and learn the blessings of living life in, through, and for God.
He says:
For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.
Hosea 6:6 ESV
Hear Him say this to you today. Ask Him to help you move from a life apart from Him to life in Him.
