“When you harvest the crops of your land, do not harvest the grain along the edges of your fields, and do not pick up what the harvesters drop. It is the same with your grape crop… do not pick up the grapes that fall to the ground. Leave them for the poor and the foreigners living among you. I am the Lord your God. Do not steal. …”
Leviticus 19:9-11 NLT

God’s blessings include the means to work and be productive. In response, His people are not to be stingy or greedy, but make way for others to earn, too.

Believers are forbidden to exploit the potential of others through deceit, fraud, or minimization. The eighth commandment – No stealing – includes stripping away someone’s dignity.

If you are a thief, quit stealing. Instead use your hands for good hard work, and then give generously to others in need.
Ephesians 4:28 NLT

Consider today where you might be exploiting others and stealing their dignity.

Then ask yourself: In our capitalistic society, how do we make way for those on the margin, the materially and spiritually poor, to regain their dignity through work?
