107 truths about God, the world, and you.
84: Your every sin deserves the death penalty.

“…Behold, all souls are mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is mine: the soul who sins shall die. …”
Ezekiel 18:4 ESV
No matter its degree, all sin deserves the wrath of our just and holy God, and the penalty of death. Yet, His anger is inseparable from His love. He doesn’t delight in dealing out punishment or death.
We experience His judgment daily through disease, natural disasters, spiritual forces of evil, war, and poverty.[1] He desires us to see the devastating nature of our sin and return to Him.
“… Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign Lord. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live? …”
Ezekiel 18:23 NIV
Self-justification keeps us from believing our sins deserve death. Understanding the magnitude of what we deserve should cause us to reconsider.
Today, ask God to show you how far you are living from His holy standard. Ask Him to reveal His current judgment. Turn from your sin. Trust His steadfast love.
